Review Matinee 19th December

Not long back from the show.

Here is my review I will not add the little surprises as I think it will spoil it for everyone going in the next few weeks.

But it’s worth the wait and once you are there you will all be glad I didn’t tell you. Just watch out you do get wet that’s all I’m saying:wink:

As I know everyone is wanting to Know Ray's Main scenes here they are below.

Two solo Numbers

1) Ain't that a kick in the head

2) Is a sleeping beauty number (not sure of the song name but he is singing it about the princess)

* And a fight scene

* He and Lucy also sing right at the end part of I’ve Had the time of my life then the other nine principals join in and they sing another one together too I can't remember if it's before or after I've had the time of my life (I'm sure others who are going to the show today will be able to answer that)

* And a big dance routine

His dance routine was with the queen/witch was great and look good to me. it was part ballroom (but not sure what the dance is called, Dancingles will name that once she see’s the show) I noticed a few moves the same as Grease like the jumping spin.I personally thought the dance routine was great obviously it was lots slower than the Grease routine but that's why i like it as it's just the queen and Ray on stage and because the view is great and it was slower than the Grease routine you have time to take in the steps and see every move they make. (They are both Great routines and none of them are better just pointing out the differences between the two)

It seems like in the first half you don’t see that much of Ray (I could be wrong though) but he actually does one song a dance routine and random bit of acting in between. Just felt he was seen more in the second half:dry:

He sang both solo’s great with a high note in the second song which he seemed to hit perfect.

Joe Kept joking about Ray’s quiff.

And kept  trying to make Lucy and Ray crack on stage but both managed not too.

"Saying things like you forgot to have a shave"

"I Know you want to laugh with that quiff"

Ray does the fighting scene dressed as batman in a six pack suit . Joe is Robin (but with a twist).

In the second half of the show Joe and Ray do a few more scenes together and get loads of laughs from the audience.

Massive cheer for both Ray and Joe when they first appear

Also the 3D Omg in the first half it's actually scary Joe has that scene to himself. The the second half Ray, Joe, the Fairy and the Dame do the 3D scene together and it's less scary:)

Ohh and Churchhill appears in the scene with Ray

I think someone else from RQW went to the same show as me and a few are going tonight so don't want to say too much and take it away from them. But it will be good to hear if they have the same views as me. And they will probably remember things I've forgotten:lol:

The show is just under 3 hours long for anyone booking trains thought that may be an important fact you all need to know.

I posted a few pictures on my twitter but will post them on here too as some don't have twitter.

Hope my review is ok. Anyone going over the next 6 weeks enjoy the show you will have a great laugh.

I'm so glad I booked them extra tickets last week after seeing the show tonight.:)

He does seem to be in the second half more or at least i think so.

But then I actually thought the first half was longer than the second half so maybe that's why:lol:

But that's not me moaning because what he does in the first half is pretty much solo stuff with the dancing and his solo number and the little bit of acting in between.

I'd rather have seen him do that than just have had him none stop in the first half singing joint numbers with everyone else

Well I'm home had a cup of tea and its now 2 a.m!!  Still wide awake so thought I would do a review now.  If I remember anything else in the morning (or later this morning!) I will post then.

I thought the show was fantastic.  I don't usually go to pantos as they are not my thing really, but I have to say the whole thing was very funny, really professionally produced, the singing, dancing etc. was great, and Ray's singing and dancing was superb.  The dialogue was a bit trite, but I think that is just panto really, and a lot of it is aimed at the kiddies in the audience.

It does seem that the Dame (Ceri Dupree ) and Joe are on stage rather more than Ray but I think panto dames usually are.  However, as Laura said, Rays two songs are solos (apart from the dancing girls in top hats in Ain't That a Kick in the Head) - lovely to see him sing that live, and I think even better than on the album.  The highlight of the first half for me had to be his dance routine with the Witch.  I thought it was fabulous!  I do ballroom and latin dancing and it seemed perfect but Dancingles will be able to comment on the technique and how good it really was, and I think I spotted a lot of tango, a bit of chacha, a bit of salsa and some viennese waltz, but she will confirm that too - definitely tango though, but I was too busy admiring his style (beautiful arms and hands, almost balletic, in fact some of the jumps and spins I think were ballet, but I don't really know about that). It made the first half for me. He really is a lovely dancer.

Although I enjoyed very much his song in the first half, his singing in part two of a beautiful specially written ballad was so beautiful - he sounded pitch perfect to me and hit all the notes. I have to say he looked really good dressed as the prince, the costume actually suited him!  I don't think he really needed a body suit with a six pack to do the fight scene, I am sure his own muscles are more than adequate, but it did fit with Joe in that scene.  The fight was brilliantly performed too, really energetic.

I loved the interaction between Joe and Ray in particular.  Joe spent a lot of time trying to make Ray laugh, even pulling his quiff down over Ray's face.  Lucy as the princess cracked a couple of times but Ray didn't really, and when Joe adlibbed, Ray responded really quickly.  Both Ray and Joe got huge cheers when they first appeared, and Ray got lots of screams too particularly after his second song.  They all appeared to be having a really great time, and in the finale Joe and Ray were patting each other on the back, so I think they were really pleased with the reception and how well it went.  They seemed to have a real chemistry and reacted well together. A couple of times we could see Ray in the wings applauding routines by the others and laughing  which was lovely to see!

To say this was the first day the performance seemed to flow really well and nothing obviously went wrong (except when it was supposed to rain on stage and it only rained on half the stage, but Joe adlibbed brilliantly. I have to say I have never been a fan of his but quite liked him by the end.  As Laura said the 3D effects were brilliant, as were a couple of other special effects, which I won't mention yet so as not to spoil it for others going.

It was lovely to see Ray on stage again and I am so lucky as I am going again on Wednesday as I am meeting relatives near Coventry to exchange Christmas presents, and as it is so near going again! If I have forgotten anything or if anything is different will let you all know. Know this is long but hope not too boring.  It is now 2.40 a.m! Bedtime!
